Spring is upon us and it is time for some refreshing and cleaning in all areas of our lives!
Spring Cleaning Your Mind and Body!
By spring cleaning your mental space, you reduce anxiety and have a mood boost. Use
the Goldilocks rule, which suggests setting challenging goals that are also achievable to sustain motivation. Try “habit stacking” by adding a new habit to an old habit. For example, to stay hydrated, after you brush your teeth drink one glass of water. Or declutter your brain by removing one stressful thing instead of adding something new. For example, 2 days in the week (of your choice) try to lessen your phone and social media use. Finally, recognize your accomplishments! Create a “done list” to visualize what you have already completed.
Your Body Loves to Move!
As the weather gets warmer, take movement breaks often during the day. Take an “awe walk” by putting away your phone, becoming less focused on yourself and appreciating what is around you. An “awe walk” is a mindful and intentional stroll focused on the beauty of your surroundings to remind yourself the scale of your problems or stress compared to the big, beautiful world.
Spring cleaning is all about the little things you have been putting off all winter! For instance, deep cleaning the fridge or pantry to get rid of expired condiments and products, running the washer with vinegar and baking soda, even washing your shower liners in the washing machine. Something that is easy to forget is tossing expired makeup, wiping down light fixtures, dusting ceiling fans, or even washing the inside and outside of trash cans. Last, but not least, look through your clothes closet! Take everything out, sort clothing into categories (seasonal wear), and ask some questions for each. Have you worn it in the past year? Does it make you feel good when you wear it? Can you match it with a lot of things in your closet?
Have fun while spring cleaning! Remember to start small. Small habits create structure and consistency.
